UK Most Wanted 'Drugs Baron' Akarcay Arrested in Tuzla, Famagusta




Bradford ‘Drugs Baron’ Hasan Akarcay who was on the UKs most wanted list has been arrested in Tuzla Famagusta.

Akarcay, 59, was wanted by the West Yorkshire police over allegations of dealing class A drugs. He was identified as part of an investigation into drugs and organised crime in which 12.5 kilos of diamorphine and a street value of £600,000 were recovered from a vehicle in Bradford in 2006. Akarcay was believed to have fled to Cyprus in December 2006.

It is believed that there was a European Arrest Warrant out for his arrest and he has been on the Crimestoppers UK website as part of the Zygos Operation launched.

KIBRIS POSTASI newspaper discovered yesterday that Akarcay was arrested in Tuzla by TRNC Fiscal Police after movements in his bank accounts caused awareness. He was taken into custody on the suspicion of money laundering after he was followed for some time. The paper reports that this is the first in the case where bank accounts have been followed on suspicion of money laundering.
