Cyprus Union of Universities To Freeze Exchange Rates On Term Fees

The Cyprus Union of Universities has taken a decision to freeze exchange rates on term fees. A press conference will be held today in order to announce how the implementation will be.

Speaking to BRT, Cyprus Union of Universities president and Girne American University President of the Board, Founding Rector Serhat Akpinar said that the technical committee had completed their work with regards to the fees and they will be holding a press conference today to announce the implementation.
Reminding that many payments such as rents and personnel salaries were based on Euro, Akpinar said they were going to ask that property owners also freeze their rates.
The universities under the union are the Cyprus International University, Girne American University, Mediterranean Karpaz University, British Nicosia University, Cyprus American University and Metropolitan University and their educational organisations.
Eastern Mediterranean University, Lefke European University and the Middle East Technical University accept student fees in Turkish Lira therefore they will not be freezing their rates as it does not affect them.
What positions the Near East University is going to take however is waiting to be seen. The university has said that their work on exchange rates is on-going.
Meanwhile the Prime Minister Kalyoncu will be holding a meeting today at 1530 with school administrators with regards to foreign exchange rates and school fees.
